Gabriela Crinigan

My work stems largely in part from personal experience and emotions. I hope that through my work, womxn and femme-identifying people can feel represented and even identify with the characters I create. My inspiration comes from memories of my upbringing in Venezuela, from the tribal folklore I learned, from raw energy and emotion, and from the Magical Realism present in many Afro-Caribbean cultures.

I enjoy working with topics and themes such as birth, death, dreamstates, mysticism, and most importantly family, specifically motherhood. Recurring motifs and symbolic imagery in my work include teeth, roots, hair, birds, uteruses, and goddesses.
